as for me, i've just finished creating a gryffindor dormitory-style bedroom for a little boy. obviously, i couldn't go all out due to their budget limitations, but i did what i could for about $100.
here are some of the things that i did:
1. i painted the wall: top gold and bottom maroon
2. instead of using a wall border to divide the colours: i decoupaged squares of black construction paper side by side (i wanted to use black post-it notes, but alas, i don't think they make them anymore)
3. using maroon, gold, and black material: i made a valance, some drapes, a bedskirt, and 5 throw pillows
4. to spice up the items i sewed: i ironed on gryffindor patches that i printed out from my computer
5. i took the blades off of the ceiling fan and painted them maroon and gold
6. some accessories i added: a small wooden chest emblazoned with the boy's initials in gold for him to hold his "treasures", a notice board with the frame painted maroon (i pinned on a school photo of his <3, hermione...lol). i had asked his grandmother if i could put in candlesticks or a little owl sketch or various other things, but she wasn't too keen on it. she doesn't care for harry potter anyway, so i'm sure all the things i put in there was enough for her...lol.
yes, this is it... =)

here's a closer one, so you can actually see the drapes.

i pulled up the comforter to show the bedskirt i made.

here's the valance on the smaller window.

here's the ceiling fan. it looks purple-y but it's definitely maroon.

here's a shot of the wall treatment and the notice board.

a close-up of the throw pillows. on the larger ones, they have little gold buttons with lion's heads on them...awww...

AWESOME!
That is so cool. You did such an awesome job, and even with having only $100! I wish I could do my room like that.. only Slytherin :-D. I really like all of the different pillows too. So cute!August 9 2004, 16:24:53 UTC 7 years ago

cushions
Hi! Love your cushions...I am thinking about making some for a gryffindor common room. Could I ask if how you made them? Is there three pieces or did you just sew the middle strip onto a yellow cushion?September 12 2004, 07:57:08 UTC 7 years ago
Re: cushions
Nope, the gold one is just that... gold on the front, black on the back (although that doesn't matter) and I just sewed the contrasting stripe on and then ironed on a patch that I printed out on my computer. =) Voila!September 12 2004, 16:29:28 UTC 7 years ago
Re: cushions
Brilliant...you just saved me from a geometric nightmare!!! Thanks...September 24 2004, 14:35:11 UTC 7 years ago
Re: cushions
the room came out amazing.. although I also would love a slytherin-style one. I had a question though.. How do you do the whole, print out the patch and iron it on thing? (what kind of thigns do you need/use) I've been wondering for ages because I simply don't have the money to buy real patches for the things I want to make...September 24 2004, 16:15:23 UTC 7 years ago
Re: cushions
Just find any Slytherin shield online (Try doing a Google image search for "slytherin") and save them to your computer. Then just buy some Iron-on paper, then just use your computer to print them out. All the instructions should be on the package of paper. Ack, I don't know if that helped? Still need help, feel free to ask.September 24 2004, 17:27:07 UTC 7 years ago
